Ukraine denies involvement in the Nord Stream sabotage

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, following its investigative actions, has stated that there is no evidence of the Ukrainian state’s involvement in the sabotage of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines.

“Based on the work already carried out and the information obtained, no facts have currently been established that would indicate the involvement of the state of Ukraine, its authorized bodies or officials in the commission of these unlawful acts, nor that they issued, on behalf of Ukraine, any orders, assignments, directives or instructions regarding the sabotage of the said pipelines,” the statement from the prosecutor general’s office reads.

At the same time, the agency acknowledged that the investigation into all the circumstances of the case has not yet been completed and that “the collection of necessary evidence is ongoing.”

Earlier, the German Federal Prosecutor General’s Office announced that it had filed charges against Ukrainian national Sergei K., suspected of involvement in the pipeline sabotage. The German agency believes that he and his accomplices developed the sabotage plan on the orders of Ukrainian state structures. According to the investigation, the saboteurs used a sailing yacht called Andromeda, rented in Rostock, after which divers attached several explosive devices to the pipes on the seabed.

Unprecedented damage to three sections of Nord Stream and the never-commissioned Nord Stream 2 was recorded on September 26, 2022. Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office initiated a criminal case on an act of international terrorism. In March 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also stated that Ukrainians were not involved in the pipeline sabotage.
