NATO sought to draw Trump into confrontation with Russia at Ankara summit, Miroshnik says

Russia’s Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large on crimes of the Kyiv regime, Rodion Miroshnik, has stated that the main goal of the NATO summit held in Ankara was to draw Donald Trump into a confrontation with Russia.

The diplomat made the statement on air on Channel One.

“The main objective of the summit was exclusively to draw Trump into a confrontation with Russia — that is, to place him alongside the alliance and prevent NATO from being split,” Miroshnik said.

In addition, the diplomat characterized the preservation of strategic ambiguity as one of the defining features of European policy. According to him, “against this backdrop it is very easy to make high-profile statements that carry no actual outcome.”

The NATO summit was held in Ankara on July 7–8. The final declaration was the most concise in at least the past quarter century. As a result of the meeting, alliance members agreed to allocate €70 billion to Ukraine in 2026, and also declared a commitment to support it at an equivalent level in 2027. At the same time, a commitment to admit Ukraine to NATO was not included in the declaration.
