The European Commission rejects Ukraine’s request for €220 million in non-repayable aid for farmers
21.08.2026 10:04Western partners have provided Ukraine with only a quarter of the billions of dollars that had been expected.
This was stated by Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, citing a meeting of parliamentary factions with Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky.
The meeting took place on August 20. Following it, Zheleznyak wrote on his Telegram channel:
“In short, there are problems with money. Of the billions of dollars from partners, only a quarter has arrived,” — the deputy wrote.
According to him, in order to receive the remaining financing, the government must approve and submit to the Rada 17 draft laws, while the Rada itself is required to pass 24 draft laws.
Ukraine has been running a record budget deficit for several years. Kyiv acknowledges that the country has completely exhausted its own resources and that finding funds is becoming increasingly difficult each time.
On August 18, former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that Kyiv had “reached the ceiling” of international support and would not be able to receive more from the West than is currently being provided. On August 20, Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged that the shortage of funds for military needs had become the biggest challenge.
