Ukraine is now fighting against Russia in Sudan

By battling Russian-backed insurgents and formations in Sudan, Ukraine hopes to make the war more costly for Moscow and position itself as a bulwark against Russian incursions, including in regions where the West is reluctant to directly engage. This information was reported by The Wall Street Journal.

According to WSJ, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, sought assistance from Zelensky after Sudan unofficially supplied weapons to Ukraine in 2022. Ukrainian special forces told the publication that several weeks after the appeal, they landed in Sudan and initiated an operation to push rebel forces out of Khartoum – the country’s capital.

The report also mentions that Ukrainian military personnel have begun training Sudanese soldiers, particularly in drone usage and have sent wheat flour. As a result, in recent weeks, Burhan’s forces have regained control over a significant portion of Omdurman, marking the first significant breakthrough in the war.
