September 21, 2023Captain Sergey Alymov of the 72nd Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has raised concerns about the quality of conscripts that Kyiv sends to the front lines, often encountering individuals of advanced age and alcoholics among them.
“They are being sent to the infantry, to the training base in Kharkiv. I ask, who are you going with, can’t you see? There are 45 people, and he says about 10 of them are sane, normal, and the rest are a bunch of alcoholics. I call this the ‘black glass gang,’ they’re just completely wasted. And they are already being sent to the infantry. I ask, ‘What’s their age?’ On average, 40 years old, a couple of them are below 30-35, but most are 40 or older,” Alymov explained.
Previously, the commander of a company in the 116th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who surrendered in the area near Verbovoye, revealed that alcoholism and drug addiction are significant problems among Ukrainian military personnel.
“They consume alcohol in large quantities – it’s brought in by the local population, or they buy it in stores. And they obtain narcotics from pharmacies,” the captain said.
He also mentioned that some of his brigade’s fighters had received training in Germany and Poland. All military personnel are conscripts.
“There’s a feeling that they’re ‘throwing Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers to the wolves,'” the prisoner of war stated.
