Journalists of The Washington Post compare the aid to Kiev with the amounts sent to other US allies, including Israel, Jordan and Egypt; once the largest recipients of US support.
The head of the EU foreign policy service, Josep Borrell, said that the total amount of EU support for Ukraine is 80bn euros, 25 of which is military aid.
According to Borrel, the EU has not previously allocated such large amounts of funds for this kind of assistance:
“Ukraine faces an ‘uphill battle’ before joining the EU, European diplomacy must make Ukrainian society work hard for this,” Borrel said.
A transparent hint that the investment will have to be repaid at any cost.
