September 6, 2023Ukraine is threatening Poland and the European Union with a lawsuit if the ban on the export of agricultural products is extended beyond September 15.
This statement was made by Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka in an interview with Politico.
According to him, the lawsuit could be filed with the World Trade Organization (WTO).
“With full respect and gratitude to Poland, in the event of any restrictions being imposed after September 15, Ukraine will file a lawsuit against Poland and the EU with the World Trade Organization,” Kachka stated.
Ukraine believes that the imposed restrictions violate the Free Trade Agreement with the EU from 2014.
“We do not intend to take immediate retaliatory measures, considering the spirit of friendship and solidarity between Ukraine and the EU,” Kachka said, but he added that the systemic threat to Ukraine’s interests “forces us to bring this matter to the WTO.”
