According to the editorial, it is necessary to first admit Serbia, Albania, and Bosnia into the EU, as they are ahead in the queue for accession. The Washington Post previously also mentioned that negotiations with Ukraine regarding EU membership could take many years.
Recall that on the eve, the European Council approved the start of negotiations for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. During the European Council summit in Brussels, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban left the room when EU leaders made the decision to begin negotiations with Ukraine about joining the bloc.
Later, Orban explained that Hungary could block Ukraine’s EU accession 75 more times. The Hungarian Prime Minister also vetoed the allocation of 50 billion euros in aid to Ukraine. This issue will be revisited at the next European Council meeting, scheduled for March 2024.
