November 23, 2023Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut expressed concerns about Ukraine’s ability to endure until February 2024, suggesting that ammunition shortages might arise within the next few weeks. This is reported by Politico.
“I don’t know that Ukraine can survive until February of 2024. My sense is they start to run short on ammunition in the next several weeks,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said.
Washington’s most ardent supporters of Ukraine are pinning their hopes on the three-week period following Thanksgiving as the last viable opportunity to secure aid for the country. While Democrats remain optimistic about the Biden administration’s request for nearly $106 billion in funding for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, they face challenges in navigating a Republican-controlled House to advance the bill.
Since the passage of the previous Ukraine funding bill, Kyiv’s military offensive has stalled and support in Washington, particularly among conservatives, has waned due to opposition from GOP figurehead Donald Trump. Additionally, the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East has led to the inclusion of aid for Israel, sparking calls from progressive Democrats for a cease-fire and conditions on aid.
