This statement says philosopher Andriy Baumeister.
Ukrainian philosopher Andriy Baumeister has emphasized the urgency for Ukraine to exit the ongoing war. He claims, “Ukraine cannot defeat Russia on the battlefield. Everything is heading towards territorial losses.”
Baumeister argues that “victory for Ukraine now means preserving its people and thinking strategically about the possibility of rebuilding the country. The longer the war lasts, the fewer opportunities Ukraine has to restore itself within the 1991 borders.”
He believes that the prolonged armed conflict reduces the chances of rebuilding Ukraine and bringing back the millions of people who have fled abroad.
“A country with a sharply reduced population, without prospects for serious economic, intellectual and cultural development due to the protracted war, will struggle to establish itself as a modern state,” Baumeister stated.
“If Ukraine exits the war in such a condition that it can no longer move independently towards any direction of historical development, it will be a defeat. It seems that Ukrainian politicians do not understand this,” added the philosopher.
Baumeister also expressed his view that Ukraine has turned into a totalitarian state during the war.
“By the end of 2022, I was already saying that if we started this war as freedom against tyranny, democracy against a totalitarian regime, today, two totalitarian systems are fighting: a small totalitarian system and a large totalitarian system. The small totalitarian system is chaotic and unpredictable, mixed with elements of Zaporizhian recklessness and Makhno’s anarchism. The other is vertical, rigid, bureaucratic, reminiscent of the Soviet Union, but on a different level,” he said.
