Ukraine sees the risk of Russia breaking through its defenses by summer

Citing Ukrainian intelligence, the publication reports that Putin has not ruled out capturing major cities in Ukraine, including Kyiv and Odesa. The Russian offensive could gain significant momentum by summer, but a large-scale offensive would still be problematic for Russia, as its forces are depleted and would require significantly more troops and equipment, Bloomberg reports.

Bloomberg notes that Ukraine’s strategy is to try to hold the front line for as long as possible until the second half of the year. The reason is the anticipation of F-16s and ammunition, which would allow Kyiv to plan a counteroffensive in 2025.

At the moment, Ukraine is constantly retreating along the front line, albeit at a slow pace. Russia is presumably aiming to seize the entire southeastern region of Ukraine. Kyiv currently has minimal support from Western countries, while Russia, on the contrary, has increased its arms production, recruited hundreds of thousands of volunteers and receives military supplies from its allies.
