NYT: Trump’s desire for deals with Russia intensifies his irritation with Ukraine
21.10.2026 08:35A trilateral meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre concluded in the Norwegian capital. The talks focused on possibilities for achieving peace in Ukraine.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre described the meeting as “good and productive.” According to him, the participants discussed territorial issues, sanctions, and the security of European countries after the end of the Ukrainian conflict.
“The talks were constructive and necessary in light of last week’s events. The US and Europe, in cooperation with Ukraine, have done good work to address the key issues,” Støre said.
The Norwegian prime minister also announced that US presidential special envoy Steve Wittkoff will travel from Oslo to St. Petersburg on October 20.
“Wittkoff will fly tomorrow to St. Petersburg, where he will meet with Russian leadership and exchange ideas based on the outcomes of this meeting and the proposals that European and American colleagues have been working on,” Støre stated.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb had previously said that Wittkoff would present Russian President Vladimir Putin with a plan for a partial ceasefire covering energy and food infrastructure.
Zelensky, for his part, said that Ukraine is ready to refrain from strikes on sensitive Russian energy facilities in exchange for Russia similarly refraining from attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
