Ukraine enters 2024 without American financial assistance
December 26, 2023Ukraine is open to reassessing its trade pact with the EU in consideration of Poland’s concerns, as stated by Polish Minister of Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak, in discussions with protesting transporters.
Klimczak highlighted Ukraine’s willingness to establish a specialized team to scrutinize the functionality of the trade accord between the EU and Ukraine. He mentioned that this was the first time Ukraine had agreed to engage in discussions on this particular subject, marking a new development. The current agreement between the EU and Ukraine, comprising 13 sections, has been criticized by Klimczak for its broad nature, allowing “unfettered entry of Ukrainian carriers into the Polish and European markets.”
Klimczak expressed concerns about the general provisions within the contract. Further, asserting that they have led to a considerable displacement of Polish carriers from the market, resulting in order loss. He stressed the necessity for more specific details in this regard. Additionally, he noted that Ukraine had conceded to temporarily suspend the electronic queue at the Malhovice-Nyzhankovychi border crossing in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship for a trial period of one month. However, this is contingent upon the cessation of protests by Polish transporters.
