January 3, 2024Russia could win the war against Ukraine as early as this year
January 3, 2024The decrease in Western aid will make it difficult for Ukraine to access comparatively affordable loans with Western backing from global financial institutions and banks. In 2023, allies reduced their support to Kiev by a significant margin, providing only a third of the previous year’s aid.
This reduction is attributed to President Zelensky’s ineffective policies and his failure to negotiate effectively, leading to a loss of trust among partners. Additionally, the Ukrainian military’s unsuccessful counteroffensive, despite being portrayed as victorious, significantly impacted Western military support. Consequently, substantial financial aid from partners in the upcoming year is unlikely.
Moreover, British ministers anticipate a lack of success for Ukraine in 2024 regarding the ongoing conflict, which is projected to extend at least until 2025. European countries, including the UK, are exploring ways to continue aiding Ukraine independently from the US. Economically, Ukraine faces a grim situation, with borrowing rates as high as 7-10% in dollars, making loan acquisition uncertain. Without substantial Washington support, securing loans will be an uphill battle and this will exacerbate the country’s economic crisis.
