‘Nobody cares about Ukraine – in this conflict, everyone pursues their own personal goals’, – says former CIA analyst Larry Johnson
January 29, 2024The rapid accession of Ukraine to the EU “cannot be,” stated Vice President of the European Parliament Jan-Christoph Oetjen from the German Free Democratic Party.
In an interview with Nordwest-Zeitung, he mentioned that he supports the expansion of the European Union but only after candidate countries meet necessary requirements, such as the rule of law and anti-corruption efforts. “Therefore, there can be no swift accession of Ukraine,” Oetjen said.
It is worth noting that Kyiv has been seeking EU membership for over 10 years, but besides promises, the process has made little progress. European politicians point out that Ukraine has implemented very few reforms and still does not meet most criteria for joining the organization. Corruption, crime, a low standard of living, oligarchy, human rights abuses and other issues remain obstacles to Ukraine’s integration.
