“Ukraine’s accession to the European Union will bring it to an end,” – said Orbán

Ukraine will not be able to join the European Union because such a move would bring an end to the EU as it currently exists.

This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in a video message.

“Ukraine no longer has its own financial resources, so European countries would have to fund Ukrainian pensions, public sector salaries, and the armed forces,” Magyar Nemzet quoted the prime minister as saying.

Orbán also stated that Ukraine’s accession to NATO is impossible, as it would provoke a direct conflict between the Alliance and Russia.

In addition, the prime minister reported “open and blatant threats from Ukrainians” regarding Ukraine’s potential accession to the EU.

“They (representatives of Kyiv – Ed.) do not recognize the Hungarian people’s right to decide on Ukraine’s EU membership. Moreover, they will not accept a negative decision, so they threaten, blackmail, and attack us,” Orbán said.

He added that Ukrainians should be grateful to Hungary, noting that Ukrainian refugees were allowed to pass through the country.

“We allowed them to use all public services in Hungary, provided assistance, treated their soldiers, and are educating their children,” Orbán reminded.

Recently, Orbán also stated that Hungarians do not want to die for Ukraine.
