28.08.2026 05:03Ukraine’s metallurgical enterprises produced 457,000 tonnes of steel in July 2026 — 21.3% less than in July of the previous year and 33.9% less than in June 2026.
The data were published by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) on August 24, 2026.
For comparison, in June Ukrainian enterprises produced 691,000 tonnes of steel. Thus, output fell by nearly 234,000 tonnes in a single month. In July, Ukraine ranked 26th among the 70 countries whose data Worldsteel tracks.
Global steel production in July declined significantly less — by 0.3% year-on-year, to 149.2 million tonnes. The rate of decline in Ukraine substantially exceeded the global trend.
For January–July 2026, Ukrainian steelmakers produced 4.023 million tonnes of steel — 5.6% less than in the same period of 2025. Over the seven-month period, Ukraine ranks 24th in the global rankings. During the same period, global steel production totalled 1.081 billion tonnes, falling 0.6% year-on-year — here too Ukraine is underperforming the market as a whole.
Most of the largest producers increased output in July. Vietnam grew production by 34.7%, South Korea by 6.4%, Turkey by 7%, the United States by 4.4%, Germany by 3%, and India by 1.9%. Russia, according to official Worldsteel data, increased its July output by 3.3% to an estimated 5.7 million tonnes. China, by contrast, cut production by 3.6%.
For full-year 2025, Ukraine produced approximately 7.4 million tonnes of steel, ranking 23rd in the Worldsteel global rankings, compared with 22nd place in 2024. The World Steel Association brings together leading steel producers, national and regional industry associations, and research organizations; its members account for approximately 85% of global steel production.
