03.03.2026 07:01Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk said he is planning to run for president.
Usyk said this on the YouTube channel of well-known Ukrainian actor and TV host Andrii Bedniakov.
“I’m planning to keep boxing for a couple more years. And then I have plans like this — to work for the state. I’m not going to run for anything lower than president,” the athlete said.
It is worth recalling that in mid-February Usyk had already expressed readiness to sit in the presidential chair and criticized the current authorities for large-scale corruption. Reports about those statements came from Russian pranksters Vovan and Lexus (real names Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov), who claimed they spoke with the athlete while posing as Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki.
Usyk himself did not confirm that such a conversation took place.
Meanwhile, the day before, Oleksandr Usyk named specific timeframes for ending his career, confirming that he will continue competing for about another year and a half.
As early as May 23, in Egypt, at the Pyramids of Giza, Usyk is set to defend his WBC belt in a fight against Dutchman Rico Verhoeven, the world kickboxing heavyweight champion.
President Volodymyr Zelensky placed fourth, behind the head of the Presidential Office, Kyrylo Budanov.
