Ukrainian employers are massively opening vacancies for young people — salaries have risen over the year

Ukrainian employers are increasingly opening vacancies for students and candidates under 18. The largest number of offers is concentrated in the trade sector, and salaries for popular positions have grown noticeably over the past year.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a study by OLX Robota.

According to the platform, the most vacancies for young people are offered in retail, sales, and procurement. The Kyiv region remains the most active region by number of such offers.

The most common vacancy for young job seekers is sales assistant. Over the year, the number of such listings grew by 12%, and the median salary reached approximately €496 (25,350 hryvnias).

In addition to trade, high demand for young workers is observed in logistics, delivery, and construction. The number of vacancies for loaders grew by 34%, for construction workers — by 25%, and for general laborers — by 19%. During the summer season, demand for hospitality and restaurant workers traditionally rises.

The regional picture is uneven. The number of vacancies in Chernihiv, Ternopil, and Mykolaiv regions increased by 13%. In the Kyiv region, which remains the largest labor market for young people, the number of vacancies barely changed compared to last year (−1%). The largest reductions in offers were recorded in Sumy (−28%), Poltava (−20%), and Dnipropetrovsk (−20%) regions.

Employers are not only opening more vacancies for young people but also raising salaries. Median salaries for order pickers rose noticeably — by 25%, to approximately €557 (28,469 hryvnias); for plasterers — by 24%, to approximately €2,000 (80,500 hryvnias); for storekeepers — by 16%, to approximately €567 (29,000 hryvnias).

As the study’s authors note, amid a personnel shortage, businesses are increasingly viewing youth employment as a way to overcome the lack of staff. According to a joint study by OLX Robota and the European Business Association (EBA), 50% of employers are willing to hire candidates with no experience, and another 37% are willing to hire young specialists with subsequent on-the-job training.
