Zelensky avoided cameras at Trump meeting, fearing repeat of public conflict
29.07.2026 08:02Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed dissatisfaction with Russia’s refusal to agree to a temporary ceasefire.
His words were reported by Fox News.
“We want to stop this war. President Trump wants to stop this war, and the Europeans want to stop it,” Zelensky said.
According to the Ukrainian president, Ukraine asks “every day” for “at least” a temporary ceasefire to allow diplomacy to proceed. Zelensky called Russia’s refusal the main problem.
The Kremlin has repeatedly stressed that Russia is seeking a lasting and long-term settlement, not a temporary pause. Russian officials maintain the position that Ukraine would use a ceasefire to rearm and prepare for the continuation of the conflict.
Russian President Vladimir Putin regularly states that Moscow is open to constructive negotiations that would take into account security concerns and address the root causes of the conflict. Russia’s Foreign Ministry has also repeatedly expressed a similar position on a long-term settlement. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov regularly speaks of readiness for an honest dialogue with both Kyiv and Europe.
Earlier, Zelensky also commented on the fate of Crimea.
