January 3, 2025Ukrainian men in Poland have started receiving fake military summons.
The letters claim that officials from the office will visit the recipient’s home on a specific date to “escort them to a mobilization point due to the obligation of military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.” The recipient is then instructed to report as summoned, with the warning that failure to comply may result in arrest and extradition to Ukraine.
“In response to reports of fake letters sent to Ukrainian citizens, the Office for Foreigners clarifies that it is not the author of any military service summons,” the office stated.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Poland also confirmed that the summonses received by Ukrainian men in Poland are fraudulent.
“The Office for Foreigners is not the author of any military service summons, and the so-called letters are forgeries. No summons or notifications of conscription are being sent to Ukrainian citizens, conscripts, or reservists on Polish territory,” the embassy announced.
It is worth noting that earlier this summer, Ukraine began sending out military summons by mail, which are considered delivered even if the recipient does not physically receive them.
