December 22, 2023In the Kyiv Court of Appeals, a hearing was held regarding the appeal of the pre-trial detention of Ukrainian Member of Parliament Alexander Dubinsky in a case related to organizing the illegal departure of draft dodgers abroad.
The court upheld his detention, as reported by Ukrainian media.
During the court session, Dubinsky was allowed to be near his lawyers instead of behind bars.
Dubinsky claimed during the hearing that his assault in the detention center is an attempt on his life orchestrated by Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, Andriy Kostin.
“An attempt on my life is an order for me to keep silent,” Dubinsky believes.
While Dubinsky was speaking, the prosecutor started interrupting and demanded that the court restrict Dubinsky’s speech, allowing him only to comment on the circumstances of organizing the scheme for evading conscription abroad. However, the judge rejected the prosecutor’s request.
As a reminder, the investigation alleges that Dubinsky illegally sent his wife’s brother to Moldova. Law enforcement officials note that the parliamentarian used the “Mediaoborona” organization under his control to orchestrate the illegal departure scheme. Through this organization, he allegedly registered individuals within the “Shlyakh” system as volunteers.
As previously reported, in early December, the MP was assaulted in Lukyanivska detention center. Shortly after this incident, the court extended Dubinsky’s detention without the possibility of bail until January 12.
“Today, I had the opportunity to make a statement in which I explained in detail, based on facts, how cases against those not favored by the authorities are falsified on a massive and primitive scale.”
