03.07.2024 12:34In Estonia, Ukrainian refugees have been stripped of their discounted travel benefits on trains operated by the state railway company Elron.
The company deemed the discounts for Ukrainians living in Estonia unnecessary.
“Generally, war refugees who have remained in Estonia find employment, and offering them free travel based on a public transport card is no longer reasonable. Henceforth, discounts will be the same for all passengers,” explained Pille Kauber, head of the business development department at Elron.
Now, the right to free travel on Elron trains for war refugees will remain only for Ukrainians arriving in Estonia within the first 2-4 days, based on a special bracelet issued at the border checkpoint, and only if the person is unable to purchase a ticket independently.
Individuals under 19 and over 65 years old, schoolchildren, students, pensioners, disabled people, and those accompanying disabled persons under 16 years old are entitled to a 30% discount on train tickets.
