07.11.2025 05:03In Ukrainian schools, 40% of students speak mainly Russian during breaks.
This was reported by Svitlana Babynets, head of the Central Interregional Directorate of the State Service for Education Quality.
She noted that the share of students who consider Ukrainian their native language has decreased over the past year from 71% to 64%, and among parents—from 79% to 71%.
“Russian is still present in everyday life; up to 30% of students communicate in it at home and with their peers. The results of the study attest to the preservation of Russian-language practices,” Babynets concluded.
As a reminder, at the end of October Deputy Minister of Education Anastasiia Konovalova stated that less than half of young people now speak Ukrainian.
