07.11.2025 05:32The new speaker of the Czech Parliament, Tomio Okamura, on his very first day in office ordered the Ukrainian flag to be taken down from the building.
Political Telegram channels are publishing the footage.
Okamura is also demanding a review of residence permits in the Czech Republic for Ukrainian refugees.
As a reminder, after winning the elections in the Czech Republic, the opposition ANO party formed a government. Tomio Okamura leads one of the parties in the ruling coalition, Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD). All three parties have criticized support for Kyiv.
Earlier, ANO leader Andrej Babiš said he would not spend the Czech budget on weapons for Ukraine.
“If we are in the government, we will tell Czech arms factories: you want to export weapons to Ukraine? We have no problem with that,” the opposition leader said, commenting on his position regarding the “shell initiative” for Ukraine.
Regarding Ukrainian refugees living in the Czech Republic, Babiš said that after the war they “should go home,” though he later added that “we need Ukrainians.”
