December 22, 2023The decision to leave Avdiivka will likely need to be made before the New Year. This opinion was expressed by former “Aidar” battalion commander, Yevhen Dikyi.
“In the Avdiivka area, they (the Russians – Ed.) have made such significant progress that I’ll be frank: I spoke with the guys from there yesterday, and now there is a much greater likelihood that we will be forced to retreat from Avdiivka rather than hold it. I would even venture to suggest that the decision to withdraw from Avdiivka may have to be made even before the New Year,” Dikyi stated.
Recall that in October, the Russian army began attempts to encircle Avdiivka. They didn’t manage to do it quickly, but some outskirts and several districts have already come under the control of Russian forces. Additionally, the encirclement continues to tighten, and the Ukrainian troop grouping may be encircled or attempt to retreat sooner.
