Ukrainian women in the EU must prove they are not evading military service

European Commission spokesperson Markus Lammert stated that Ukrainian women, like men, are required to confirm they are not evading military service in order to obtain temporary protection status in European Union countries.

He made the announcement at a briefing in Brussels.

“The EU Council decision on extending temporary protection entered into force at the beginning of August. But it is up to national authorities to apply this decision and determine the rules of admission. The EU Council decision makes no distinction between men and women in terms of application. You remember this issue of military service or completed military service, so there is no difference between men and women here [if they are subject to military service],” Lammert said.

Earlier, a number of Telegram channels reported that in Belgium, all newly arrived Ukrainians regardless of gender who apply for temporary protection are required to present the “Reserve+” application. Similar information came from other countries, including Spain.

Shortly after these publications appeared, the state Center for Countering Disinformation called them a manipulation.
