17.01.2025 - 21:45Poland has begun forming a Ukrainian “Foreign Legion,” composed of Ukrainian women living in Europe who wish to fight on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
This was reported by Newsweek, citing Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.
It is noted that, due to a shortage of troops, the Verkhovna Rada has taken steps toward mobilizing women by discussing legal changes that would allow them to be called up for service and undergo training.
The article states that approximately 1,300 applications have been submitted for the Polish “Ukrainian Legion.” The first group has already completed one phase of training and is temporarily in Ukraine. Ultimately, they will continue their training either in NATO countries or in Ukraine.
Previously, delays occurred in Poland regarding the creation of the so-called Ukrainian Legion from Ukrainian citizens residing in the country.
Ukraine’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Vasyl Zvarych, stated that Kyiv plans to extend the experience of forming a legion in Poland to other countries.
