Germany has no intention to supply Taurus missiles to Ukraine
February 1, 2024The blockade of the Polish-Ukrainian border has negatively impacted Ukrainians’ perception of Poles: in 2022, 83% of Ukrainians had a positive attitude towards Poles, but in 2024, this number dropped to 44%, according to a survey by Info Sapiens and the Miroshesvky Dialogue Center.
The proportion of neutral attitudes increased from 15% to 45%, while negative attitudes rose from 1% to 9%. Overall, 92% of respondents are aware of the blockade on the Polish-Ukrainian border. Interestingly, 38% believe that not only Poland but also the “actions and inaction of the governments of Poland, Ukraine and the European Commission” are to blame for the current situation. Recall that from November 2023 to January 2024, Polish carriers blocked movement at several checkpoints on the border with Ukraine.
It is worth noting that there are many unresolved issues between Kyiv and Warsaw. Besides the blockade, the countries have historical grievances against each other, with Poland accusing Ukrainian nationalists of ethnic cleansing during World War II, a claim that Kyiv continues to deny. Additionally, radicals in Poland even have territorial claims on western regions of Ukraine.
