07.01.2026 - 16:01Ukrainian users searched for Christmas greetings in Russian on Christmas Day.
This was noted by the Telegram channel “Politics of the Country” (Politika strany).
The outlet’s authors cited Google Trends, a service that aggregates statistics on search queries. They said that on January 7, users in Ukraine were actively searching for Russian-language Christmas greetings. In 2nd, 3rd, and 6th place were the queries “Merry Christmas” (literally “with the Nativity of Christ”), “Merry Christmas,” and “Christmas cards with the Nativity of Christ,” respectively.
The most popular search query among Ukrainian users, they wrote, was related to a football match between the Italian teams Lecce and Roma. In fourth place was the query “Programmer’s Day.” The piece says that Ukrainian authorities officially moved the celebration of Christmas to December 25. It also claims that President Volodymyr Zelensky designated January 7 as Programmer’s Day.
Earlier, war correspondent Aleksandr Kots suggested that Kyiv might stage a provocation on Christmas. He added that, in his view, the president of Ukraine has long had nothing sacred left.
