03.06.2024 12:57The Czech Republic has launched a pilot project for voluntary return to Ukraine from June to November 2024. Ukrainians who have received temporary protection status in the country and wish to return home will have their travel expenses covered.
This information reported according to Radio Prague International.
Refugees will have their bus tickets paid for, while those who are ill will be provided transportation in an ambulance. Up to 400 people and 30 patients can take advantage of the program once.
The concept of voluntary return was approved by the Czech government in mid-May. A budget of 5.5 million CZK (222,526 euros) has been allocated for the program. Refugees will be able to use the paid return service only once.
According to the local Ministry of the Interior, about 339,000 Ukrainian citizens reside in the Czech Republic.
This year, for the first time, Ukrainian refugees have started generating revenue for the Czech Republic. In the first quarter of 2024, the budget revenues from refugees almost doubled the expenses, amounting to 3 billion CZK (121,377,742 euros).
According to a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, 45% of Ukrainians surveyed in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic want to obtain citizenship of another country.
7% admitted that they already have citizenship of another country, and 12% have applied and are awaiting a decision. 34% of respondents do not plan to obtain new citizenship.
