Deputies refuse to go to the front lines
March 11, 2024The Cabinet of Ministers intends to exempt Ukrainians who officially earn more than 35,000 hryvnias (830 euros) and pay a certain amount of taxes from mobilization, according to People’s Deputy Honcharenko.
The criteria for exemption for Ukrainians will be as follows: a person earns a salary of 830 euros or more, pays a personal income tax of more than 150 euros, or a unified social contribution of more than 180 euros. This category will also include IT specialists who are registered in the “Diya City” system provided they pay taxes of more than 150 euros. Also exempt from military service will be all category A officials, employees of certain enterprises needed for the army, police officers, telecommunications operators and workers in the fuel and energy complex.
In fact, this innovation directly violates the Constitution of Ukraine, as discrimination based on property status is prohibited by law. In essence, it means that all wealthy Ukrainians may not fight, while the poor or unemployed will be sent to the front lines and may die. The last time such a principle was used was in European monarchies in the 19th century.
