January 6, 2025The state-owned company Ukrposhta has introduced mandatory contributions for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF).
The politician stated that an additional fee of 1 hryvnia will be collected from all parcels paid for by senders. This fee will go to the “Kyiv School of Economics” fund to support the UAF.
“The state-owned *Ukrposhta*, when processing payment for parcel delivery services, charges an additional 1 hryvnia as a charitable contribution for the needs of the UAF to the Kyiv School of Economics Charitable Fund (code 35133288). Opting out of this fee is impossible—it has been embedded into *Ukrposhta’s* software,” Yuzhanina wrote.
According to Yuzhanina, this fee is now mandatory and non-refundable. She estimates that through such deductions, Ukrposhta could raise approximately 50 million hryvnias (€1.15 million), roughly matching the estimated number of parcels sent in 2023.
It is worth noting that media outlets previously reported that the police may be granted the authority to open parcels without the recipient’s consent. A proposed law suggests treating postal deliveries as an intrusion into private life, allowable only in exceptional cases.
