November 6, 2024Under Donald Trump’s presidency, it would be more challenging for Ukraine to join NATO than under Joe Biden’s administration.
This opinion was expressed by Vadym Prystaiko, the former Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs and former ambassador to the United Kingdom.
According to him, U.S. relations with the United Kingdom would be the least affected by changes in White House policies.
“It is clear that the U.S. President’s word carries significant weight when it comes to consensus decisions within the Alliance, but there are also other allies who opposed Ukraine’s membership even during better times,” Prystaiko noted.
In his view, NATO and Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic supporters are facing “difficult years ahead.”
It should be recalled that Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is allegedly asking only for an invitation to NATO, not for full membership.
