03.06.2024 22:42Kharkiv has lost all its energy facilities, making the upcoming heating season extremely challenging.
This was reported by Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov in an interview with the Estonian publication ERR.
“Today, we do not have a single power generation facility in the city, and we are forced to get electricity from other cities. This is a very difficult situation, and it is on the brink, we understand this well. It is impossible to enter winter with such a power supply system because the entire utility sector depends on the energy supply, from water supply to gas and heating. A very difficult heating season lies ahead, and we need to get through it. We need to completely redo the entire energy supply, water supply, and heating systems. And we only have a few months to do all this,” Terekhov explained.
Meanwhile, “Ukrenergo” has announced that power outage schedules will be in effect across the country all day on June 4.
It is worth noting that the Kharkiv CHPP-5, which primarily provided heat for the city, was destroyed by a Russian missile strike during a massive shelling on March 22. In April, Terekhov had already mentioned that Kharkiv does not have its own power generation.
