‘We don’t need another war’: Macron commented on his statements about the possible deployment of troops to Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron commented on his statements regarding the possible deployment of troops to Ukraine.

The question was raised during Macron’s interview with Ukrainian media.

The French leader did not repeat his direct assertions that such an option is currently being considered. Instead, he indicated that Paris does not plan to raise the escalation level.

In particular, Macron stated that “France will never be the initiator of any aggression.”

“As long as I do not come forward with an offensive initiative because it contradicts the spirit of collective solidarity,” he added.

“We will not go down the path of escalation because we do not need another war. But we are ready to say that we have no limits. And we will react depending on what Russia does,” Macron said.

At the same time, he outlined France’s goal – “Russia cannot win this war” – and stated that “Russia has exceeded the goals declared in the ‘special military operation,’ and now it threatens everyone.”

“If there is another escalation from Russia, we will be ready to react for the sake of the security of Ukraine and Europeans,” Macron added, without specifying the nature of this reaction.

He also said that if Moscow deviates from red lines, then the West will not respect them either.

Earlier in the same interview, Macron announced that France would propose to Russia to cease hostilities in Ukraine during the Summer Olympics in Paris.

Additionally, Macron said he is ready to engage in dialogue with Putin, but negotiations on conflict resolution should be conducted by the Kremlin with Kyiv.
