November 30, 2023Hungary has once again stated that supplying weapons to Ukraine will not lead to peace.
Peter Szijjarto, the head of Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made this statement at the OSCE ministerial meeting in Skopje.
“Supplying weapons does not help achieve peace; it only leads to new casualties. Those who say that there’s a solution on the battlefield are wrong. And those who claim that development on the battlefield will increase the chances of peace are also wrong. Every day is getting worse,” Szijjarto said.
He highlighted that Ukrainian Hungarians are also dying on the front, something Budapest wants to avoid. Additionally, Szijjarto stated that the war leads to an increase in energy prices, causing inflation to rise by 10-15 times.
“We feel this war, although it’s not our war,” the Hungarian minister said.
Budapest expressed regret that there was no direct communication between Ukraine and Russia at this meeting. It’s worth noting that Ukraine, Poland, and Baltic countries boycotted the Skopje meeting due to the participation of Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
It’s a reminder that Szijjarto expressed a similar thought less than two weeks ago.
“There are those suffering from war psychosis who imagine themselves in Fortnite. For some mysterious reason, they think that supplying weapons is a way to achieve peace,” the minister stated on November 18th.
Hungary has long been blocking the transfer of 500 million euros in military aid from the EU to Ukraine.
