‘Weapon deliveries lead to new victims’: Hungary once again opposes military aid to Ukraine
November 30, 2023All parliamentary factions and groups in the Verkhovna Rada have jointly endorsed a document stipulating the postponement of elections in Ukraine, both presidential and parliamentary, until the conclusion of the ongoing war. The agreement specifies that elections will only be scheduled at least six months after the termination of martial law.
This resolution was established during the ninth “Jean Monnet Dialogue” held from November 10th to 12th in the village of Turya Paseka, situated in the Zakarpattia region. Participating in the discussions were leaders or representatives of all parliamentary factions and groups with European delegations led by former European Parliament President Cox in attendance.
According to Sergey Sobolev, Deputy Head of the “Batkivshchyna” faction, during the meeting, the factions proposed the signing of a declaration to avoid conducting elections during wartime to prevent potential divisions within the nation and the country. To preserve unity during wartime, the ruling party ultimately included the clause against wartime elections in the document.
The leadership of the parliamentary faction SN noted that the document ratified during the “Monnet Dialogue” would pose an additional barrier to the realization of the scenario of “pre-war’s end elections.” However, it’s acknowledged that the prospect of conducting elections amid ongoing hostilities has been postponed for the time being due to substantial perceived risks by the Presidential Office.
