January 26, 2024Western partners are urging Ukraine to review the recipients of payments to internally displaced persons.
This information reported according to Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister, Iryna Vereshchuk.
She mentioned that many people who moved within Ukraine due to the war have adapted over the past two years and no longer require state assistance.
“Partners demand the optimization of payments. We are directly tied to the decisions of our partners. Partners continuously demand the verification of payments with the aim of reducing or optimizing them. The international standard is that two years are sufficient for adaptation,” Vereshchuk said.
In 2024, there is a desire to reduce the total amount of payments from 73 billion hryvnias (approximately 1.8 billion euros) in 2023 to 57 billion hryvnias (approximately 1.4 billion euros), as it was in 2022.
“Vulnerable individuals should continue to receive payments, while those who, for example, have already adapted, acquired housing or have well-paying jobs… approaches should be more equitable,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
According to her data, there are approximately 4.9 million people in Ukraine considered internal displaced persons and 2.5 million of them receive monthly payments.
