Russia is sending informal signals to the United States, expressing openness to discussions on Ukraine
January 26, 2024The Verkhovna Rada is on the brink of a significant crisis as a growing number of deputies express their intention to resign from their mandates, warned David Arakhamia. He revealed that within his faction, “Servant of the People,” 17 members have already submitted formal statements of resignation. To address this issue, measures are being taken to prevent deputies from stepping down.
“A significant crisis is approaching the parliament because in my faction alone, there are 17 statements for resigning mandates. So, we already have 401 people in the parliament and we will release one more for sure due to medical circumstances – then there will be 400 people. It is quite challenging to gather 226 (the minimum necessary number for decision-making) out of 400, to be honest. In other factions and parties, I also know that there are people who want to leave,” Arakhamia said.
Presidential faction have decided that they will not vote for the resignation of mandates unless there is a genuine medical situation and there are no other conditions for them to vote for the resignation of mandates. This is needed to keep the parliament legitimate, said Arakhamia. According to him, there is currently no “unity” in the parliament and the situation is worse than it was before the war.
