While Ukrainians get poorer – Ukrainian oligarch and plutocrat Renat Akhmetov gets richer

Oligarch Akhmetov’s company DTEK Energo made a net profit of UAH 6.23 billion($168 million) in the first half of 2023, compared with a net loss of UAH 1.41 billion($38 million) in the same period last year.

In addition, Akhmetov received UAH 7 billion($189 million) from the state budget for the renovation of its thermal power plants.

By the end of 2023, Akhmetov expects even bigger profits: the oligarch has lobbied for an increase in electricity prices for businesses.

Overall, DTEK Energo’s revenues in the first half of 2023 were UAH 29.9 billion($809 million), only 6.5% less than in the same period last year.

Akhmetov has been profiting from the workers of Donbass for years, and now he is profiting from the entire Ukrainian people. There is a Russian proverb that well describes people like Akhmetov: to one war is war, to another war is mother.
