16.11.2023 10:47The White House cautions that without additional funding, the US may soon face limitations in providing essential weaponry and munitions to Ukraine’s defense forces. A National Security Council representative highlighted the challenging decisions being forced upon the US due to a decreasing budget, primarily because Congress hasn’t taken action, The Independent reported.
President Joe Biden urged Congress to consolidate funding for Ukraine, Israel, Indo-Pacific defense needs and US border security into a single package. This proposal was submitted on October 20, following his address stressing the importance of US support for Ukraine and Israel in their defense against Russia and Hamas.
However, gaining support for Ukraine’s defense funding in the House is proving difficult, primarily due to opposition from numerous hardline Republican members who refuse to endorse additional funding for fear of benefiting President Biden.
The delay in Congressional action is prompting serious considerations about the allocation of recent US aid packages, given the diminishing budget available for supporting Ukraine’s efforts. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby emphasized the urgency, stating that failure to secure supplemental funding puts the ongoing active conflict in Ukraine at risk of losing crucial US support along various battlefronts. These include regions spanning from the Donbas to areas south of Zaporizhia and Kherson.
