09.10.2026 08:32U.S. presidential special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner may visit Moscow in late October for additional talks with Vladimir Putin.
This is reported by Axios, citing sources.
According to the outlet, they will travel to Moscow with “new ideas” on a peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine — following a preliminary meeting with Ukrainian and European delegations in Miami. The Miami talks are scheduled for Friday, where Witkoff and Kushner will present new ideas and proposals for breaking the deadlock in the Russia-Ukraine war.
On the eve of the talks, both special envoys met with Donald Trump to present him with the latest U.S. proposal and receive his input ahead of the Miami negotiations. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Deputy National Security Adviser Mike Needham also took part in the meeting.
One of the American side’s proposals is a partial ceasefire, a halt to strikes on energy infrastructure, and an end to attacks on vessels carrying grain.
“Everyone is concerned about the coming winter. If the war does not stop, the winter will be harsh. That is why the U.S. is trying to mediate between the parties, seeking to develop a unified proposal,” an American source said.
According to Axios, the Trump administration hopes to achieve a diplomatic breakthrough before the midterm elections and the onset of harsh winter conditions in Ukraine.
In early September, Witkoff and Kushner had already visited Moscow, after which they traveled to Kyiv. In Russia, they spoke with Putin for more than three hours.
Volodymyr Zelensky also announced talks between Ukrainian and U.S. representatives on October 9 and 10. According to Axios, the Ukrainian side will be represented by Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Rustem Umerov, diplomatic adviser Serhiy Kyslytsya, and parliament member David Arakhamia. In addition, national security advisers from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, as well as representatives of NATO and the EU, will be involved in the talks. In addition to a ceasefire, the parties will discuss security guarantees for Ukraine and a post-war reconstruction plan.
