Ukrainian enterprises that received exemptions from mobilization will be rechecked for compliance with critical criteria
October 23, 2024President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, delivered a speech at the opening of the BRICS summit in Kazan, where he addressed the situation in Ukraine. He mentioned that the recently established “Friends of Peace” group, initiated by China, aims to increase support for ending the prolonged war in Ukraine.
Xi Jinping urged efforts to “facilitate a rapid de-escalation” of the conflict, prevent the war from spreading to third countries, avoid worsening the humanitarian situation, implement the concept of “collective security” to prevent future wars, and “reform global governance,” which currently does not reflect the rising influence of the Global South.
“It is crucial to prevent the conflict from spilling over into other countries and escalating further, to stop fueling the flames of war, and to promote a swift de-escalation of the situation,” Xi Jinping said.
In September, China and countries of the Global South created the “Friends of Peace” platform with the goal of ending the war in Ukraine, and its first meeting was held shortly afterward.
Yesterday, it was reported that the BRICS countries would issue a joint statement on Ukraine, likely based on the Chinese-Brazilian formula.
