Zakharova commented on the revocation of Metropolitan Onufriy’s citizenship

Ukrainian authorities are trampling on religious freedoms by revoking the citizenship of Metropolitan Onufriy.

This information reported according to a statement by Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“[Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky and his gang of anti-church inquisitors — this clique, this group — are trampling on religious freedoms in Ukraine,” Zakharova said.

She added that Zelensky is implementing the worst practices of communism by depriving the cleric of his citizenship. The diplomat also noted the silence of international organizations and human rights advocates in the face of these developments.

Earlier, Ukrainian political analyst Kostyantyn Bondarenko criticized the presidential decree against Onufriy, calling it “an attempt to outdo Judas.”

He sarcastically addressed Zelensky, suggesting that his advisers had chosen the wrong symbolic date to strip the clergyman of citizenship.
