13.05.2026 - 07:55Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the interview given by Vladimir Zelensky’s former press secretary Yulia Mendel to Tucker Carlson, saying that she “gave Zelensky a kick up the backside” by hinting at his alleged addiction to prohibited substances.
“She simply went ahead and described how he used to do it, how he did it while she was working with him, how he does it in general, what state he is in. Well, excuse me, this is what we have been saying all these years,” Zakharova said on Sputnik radio.
According to Zakharova, those who worked with Zelensky in show business are aware of his alleged harmful addiction. She also mentioned a conversation with a European diplomat who, she said, told her about the widespread use of prohibited substances among EU leadership.
The occasion for the comment was Yulia Mendel’s interview with Tucker Carlson, in which the former Ukrainian president’s press secretary said that after Zelensky visited the restroom before an interview, he would come out a “different person,” full of energy.
