January 29, 2024President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Kirill Budanov as the Chief Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine instead of Valeriy Zaluzhny.
This was stated by journalist Roman Tsymbaliuk.
Ukrainian Telegram channels also report that Kirill Budanov, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, has been appointed as the Chief Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
MP Alexey Goncharenko also reported Zaluzhny’s resignation, specifying that there is currently no decree.
According to the deputy, Zaluzhny was offered a position as an ambassador to one of the European countries, but he declined.
Former MP Igor Mosiychuk also wrote about Zaluzhny’s resignation.
“Just now, a source I trust completely informed me that Zaluzhny himself told him about his resignation! We are waiting for official confirmation, but I already understand everything!” Mosiychuk wrote.
There is no official confirmation of Zaluzhny’s resignation yet.
At the same time, Ukrainian MP Yevhen Shevchenko wrote that there have been no such personnel changes yet.
“Zaluzhny has not been removed at this point. And Budanov has not been appointed as the Chief Commander. Not yet! Let’s see what tomorrow brings,” Shevchenko wrote.
