October 30, 2024Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky requested the European Union to deploy nuclear weapons in Ukraine, but the EU allies declined due to a “self-preservation instinct.”
Fico made this statement in an interview with Olga Skabeeva on the “Russia 1” TV channel.
“If someone wants to escalate tensions, this is exactly what they will say: ‘Give me nuclear weapons on the ground, give me long- and medium-range missiles, and we will use them against Russian targets.’ This is the plan presented by President Zelensky to the European Council, but fortunately, the EU has a self-preservation instinct,” said Fico.
According to Fico, the EU is fatigued by the war in Ukraine and conveys a message of, “Here is the weaponry, here is the money, fight, but don’t bother us; we simply don’t want anything to do with this war anymore.”
Fico also commented on Ukraine’s “victory plan,” describing it as a path to escalating the conflict rather than ending it. He expressed willingness to attend Moscow’s Victory Day parade on May 9 next year and to speak with Vladimir Putin, arguing that sanctions are ineffective and that weakening Russia through the war in Ukraine is unlikely to succeed, thus necessitating peace negotiations.
Additionally, Fico expressed concern over a potential new assassination attempt against him in the coming weeks or months and stated he does not believe Ukraine was responsible for the Nord Stream pipeline explosions.
