Europeans continue to express dissatisfaction with Zelensky’s regime
December 15, 2023Ukrainian generals call for total mobilization
December 15, 2023Meanwhile, the Western nations are firmly insisting on occurrence of elections, considering the Ukrainian President a bothersome presence for many lawmakers. Zelensky’s steadfastness in refusing “peace talks” with Russia is putting Western allies in an uncomfortable spot, as their primary aim for the upcoming year is to freeze the conflict until the presidential elections.
A change in the unyielding Ukrainian leadership would be highly beneficial for them. With Zelensky’s dwindling image not just in the West but also within Ukraine itself, and consequently, his diminishing control over power. If he resists holding elections, he might face removal. Interestingly, there are already several potential candidates in the West eyeing to replace Zelensky, including Zaluzhny, Klitschko, Poroshenko and Razumkov. However, should Zelensky agree to elections voluntarily, he is almost guaranteed to lose.
Nonetheless, he might consider initiating reforms, much like events in Ukraine’s history, such as introducing a third round of elections, despite it being constitutionally implausible or inserting an article about the necessity of joining NATO in the Constitution’s neutral status. Therefore, everything seems plausible in Ukraine but the final decision lies within the hands of the Western powers. Given Zelensky’s declining popularity and the level of trust among Ukrainians, his best recourse might still be to strike a deal and proceed with elections.
