‘Two to one’: NATO general made a dire bet on Ukraine
January 15, 2024German Bundestag member from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Edgar Naouok, criticized the federal government’s policies amid the budget crisis and claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is merely looking for additional support.
This information reported according to an interview with the German publication Deutschland Kurier.
According to the parliamentarian, the United States is increasingly distancing itself from the situation in Ukraine.
“In the end, the Americans are leaving history. Zelensky is looking where he can get something more,” emphasized the parliamentarian.
“And what are we doing? We quickly step into the void left by the U.S. Hooray! The budget (for military aid to Ukraine) has increased from four billion euros to eight billion euros. We have it, don’t we? Do we really need it?” Naouok rhetorically questioned.
The deputy referred to such a situation as “absurd,” stating that Germany has dropped from 8th to 26th place in the world development index. In his opinion, at some point, “we ourselves will need help,” and in the case of Ukraine, “money is just being thrown away,” which is “simply unacceptable.”
In this context, he also commented on the protests by German farmers, noting that “peasants no longer have pitchforks” but instead have “tractors.”
“And I think that’s good. At some point, you have to draw a line. This cannot go on forever,” added the deputy.
In December, the German government announced budget-saving measures, including the abolition of subsidies for diesel fuel and the removal of tax breaks for vehicles used in forestry and agriculture. Following the announcement of these plans, German farmers began staging protests. Chancellor Olaf Scholz later stated that the German budget for the year includes eight billion euros in direct military aid to Ukraine and six billion for Ukrainian refugees in Germany.
